Barb Carey and I recently had the honor of attending iCast in Orlando and covering the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation's Wave Makers event. RBFF has been making great strides in getting more women involved in fishing and we're happy to help support their mission any way we can!
Here's an overview of some of the big things they've been doing and how you can help:
Women Making Waves - nearly 44% of new fishing participants are female, yet only 19% see themselves represented in the sport. We are working to change that with our Women Making Waves campaign, seen in publications like ESPN the Magazine, Outside, and across the web. More than that, though, we are activating the next generation of female leaders in the industry through meet-ups and a social media influencer program.
Off the Hook - this free pop-up fishing experience is traveling the country, stopping in major metropolitan areas to bring newcomers to the water. Early reports show this is a huge success. Hitch your brand to this exciting program as we expand in 2020.
Fishing License & Boat Registration Website Plugin - this free tool allows any brand with a consumer-facing website to bring fishing license and boat registration information directly to their customers. The license and registration process can be the most intimidating aspect of participation, and not having a fishing license has been cited as a major barrier. Let's work together to break down barriers and increase license sales.
Additionally, RBFF is bringing the industry together and working towards common goals through:
Research & Reports - including the Special Report on Fishing, Insights on High School Fishing Clubs, and a study on the link between conservation and license sales.
60 in 60 - RBFF's push to reach 60 million yearly fishing participants in 60 months, by 2021. Utilize these free resources to help us achieve this goal, and bring in new customers for your own organization along the way.
In this episode of The Woman Angler & Adventurer podcast, we feature some of the amazing social influences who came out for the big meet up! It was so much fun to see such a great turn out and getting to know some of these incredibly inspirational women. Go to takemefishing.org and sign up for their social media influencer program and be sure and follow and support these women as well. Links in the Additional Resources section below. We're better together!
