Our guest on episode 6 of the It Pays to Fish podcast, Daniel Hallum, otherwise known as "Smilin' Dan'l," got his nickname because as kid he'd run through the woods wearing a coon skin cap and everybody called him Dan'l, as in Daniel Boone. He was happy kid! One day while out fishing fishing, someone asked him, "Why are you always smilin' Dan'l?" To that he replied, "Because I'm doing what I love." That's how he became known as Smilin' Dan'l.
