How Andy Petterson Created an Ice Fishing Facebook Group That Went Viral - 009
Andy Petterson and a buddy had a plan to shoot some ice fishing videos just for fun to put on YouTube and it turned into a Facebook Group that went viral. Within 48 hours of creating the Ice Fishing Minnesota group on Facebook, they were up to 8,000 members. Today, the group boasts nearly 60,000 members and is one of the largest and most active fishing groups on the social media platform. Since then, they have branched out to Fishing Minnesota (to cover open water/summer fishing) and also Hunting Minnesota. Not only that, but Andy has his own podcast with another buddy called The Livewell. Couple that with the YouTube Channel, the website, social gatherings, fishing shows and tournaments...and you've got the makings of one busy guy! But he has the help of some really great supportive volunteer staff who are just as passionate about fishing as he is, and love the people.
In this episode, you'll hear about the journey and get a behind-the-scenes look on managing an active group of that size. I had a little fun with the editing on this one. I tried my hand at pulling off a more NPR story-like episode rather than a straight up interview. I hope you find it entertaining! It was definitely a lot more labor-intensive. Being as it was my very first time trying this, I'm sure there's a ton of room for improvement. I'd love to hear what you think! Shoot me an email at angie@thewomanangler.com.
