EP. 87 Stranded on Jewel Key: Everglades Fishing Adventure with Katie Puterbaugh from Alaska

EP. 87 Stranded on Jewel Key: Everglades Fishing Adventure with Katie Puterbaugh from Alaska

Picture this. It's a sweltering hot, windy day in the Everglades. You're covered head to toe in UV protective clothing to avoid getting sunburned on top of the sunburn you already have from the fishing outing a couple of days earlier (lesson learned the hard way!). You're fishing the flats with a super experienced captain and guide and you're paired up with an airforce vet who traveled all the way down from Alaska to be a part of this amazing adventure. The fishing's been hard due to the windy conditions and the partly cloudy skies. It's finally time to break for lunch. Then...the unthinkable happens...

EP. 84 Confessions of a Mansplainer

EP. 84 Confessions of a Mansplainer
I have been working in the fishing industry for many years and about once a month I  get a message or an email asking my opinion on the wording of something, a photograph or if I think a post could post be offensive. Most time's it is well-meaning guys who want to be doing the right thing and occasionally is a Women who is upset about something.

Well I recently received a call from a long-time acquaintance, Lyubaka, who is an avid angler and a You Tuber (lyubakavideo). He preceded to tell me that he recently was invited to go fishing by a woman from Kanas. His truck driving job allows him to travel and he always packs a fishing rod and hopes to wet a line. His paths crossed with a gal, and he joined her to fish her spot for catfish.

EP. 18 Female Anglers Making Waves with Takemefishing.org

EP. 18 Female Anglers Making Waves with Takemefishing.org

In this episode of The Woman Angler & Adventurer podcast, I had the pleasure speaking with Rachel Piacenza, Director of Marketing for the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF). Rachel grew up in the midwest and developed a passion for fishing from a very young age. She loved it so much that she set out to tie in fishing with her professional pursuits. After working for a time for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, she uprooted to Alexandra, VA to join RBFF to see how she could be involved in that organization which promotes fishing on a national level. She's been with the foundation for about 8 years now.

We spoke about TakeMeFishing.Org's newest initiative called "Making Waves" that is all about getting more women into the sport. It just launched on Mother's Day of this year, and as been making a splash on social media. We talk about some of the challenges, why this initiative is so important, and Rachel shares some promising stats as well. The mission has just begun.
