EP. 67 The Future of the Fishing Industry

EP. 67 The Future of the Fishing Industry

"Why Fishing Will Die If We Don't Fix This..." That's a hard-hitting title of a recent podcast episode by Salt Strong's Joe Simonds. If that's not an attention grabber, I'm not sure what is! Needless to say, it certainly grabbed mine.

In songwriting, there's a phenomenon we talk about where two writers in two totally different locations and even genres will grab the exact same clever idea for a song out of the ether at the same time and write two very similar songs. I'm not saying that's exactly what happened here, but as we were planning this series on the importance of introducing new anglers to the sport of fishing I noticed our friends over at Salt Strong were on a similar tack.

EP. 66 The Episode Every Angler Needs to Hear

EP. 66 The Episode Every Angler Needs to Hear

Welcome to our 2nd episode in a short series we've put together to emphasize the importance of introducing someone new to the sport of fishing. This week we have a conversation with Pat Neu, director of The Future Angler Foundation. FAF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit membership organization formed in April of 2012 by a group of anglers dedicated to helping grow the sport of fishing through education and outreach.

When you think of organizations like FAF, you often immediately think of kids and yes, that is a big part of it. Pat is quick to point out it is called The Future Angler Foundation for a reason. Their goal is to reach potential new anglers of all ages, race, and gender to the sport of fishing and educate them on how to catch fish and protect the resource. This educational component is critical for the future of the sport.

EP. 65 Passing Her Passion for Fishing on Down the Line

EP. 65 Passing Her Passion for Fishing on Down the Line

This week, we're pleased to introduce you to an incredibly inspiring woman angler named Jeanne Lilienthal. She's a pioneer in law enforcement, one of the 1st female police officers to walk the streets of Detroit. Now retired, she has given much of her time and resources over the last 29 + years of her life raising money to send kids to camp and teaching them how to fish.

We couldn't think of a better person to feature to kick off our new series of episodes all centered around the importance pass along our passion for fishing to the next generation.
