    EP. 78 Why Women Hunt...

    EP. 78 Why Women Hunt...

The Woman Angler & Adventurer podcast hosts Angie Scott and Barb Carey recently had the pleasure of meeting up with author and hunter K.J. Houtman. They were all attendees of the 2019 Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers (AGLOW) conference in beautiful LaCrosse, WI.

Houtman recently released a book entitled, "Why Women Hunt," so it was only fitting that the three women spend some time in a ground blind together on this trip. K.J. was outfitted with her bow, Barb with a crossbow and Angie was more than happy to be armed with only a GoPro to capture the scene.

Peggy Ferrell is the director of the Becoming an Outdoor Woman program. BOW started in 1990 after a conference at UWSP to explore how they could get more women involved in hunting and fishing. Founded by Christine Thomas, the conference led to the first BOW workshop and now the program is in 38 states and 6 Canadian provinces.

The program has expanded worldwide, and some options include a photo safari in Africa or trip to Iceland or Costa Rica.  BOW currently offers two three day workshops every year. The format is  1/3 shooting and hunting, 1/3 fishing, and 1/3 other classes such as dog sledding, sewing with fur, kayaking, etc.

EP. 37 Finding Love in Life and for the Outdoors in Devils Lake North Dakota

EP. 37 Finding Love in Life and for the Outdoors in Devils Lake North Dakota
Unlike a lot of women who have a passion for hunting and fishing, Jade Ledochowski didn't grow up in a family that participated in those types of activities. Born and raised near Lake Winnipeg, her family was preoccupied with various sports such as hockey and baseball. It wasn't until she went off to college and met her boyfriend Garrett Bonham that she stepped outside of her comfort zone and now she's all in!

Garrett is a fishing guide in Devils Lake North Dakota. I had the pleasure of fishing with Garrett back in September and it was a blast. I really enjoyed learning about the history of that lake and most of all- catching a lot of walleye! I highly recommend checking out Devils Lake if you ever get the chance.
