EP. 185 Bayou Barbie Outfitters Captain Lisa Kay Crossen in Louisiana

EP. 185 Bayou Barbie Outfitters Captain Lisa Kay Crossen in Louisiana

This week I'm excited to introduce you to Captain Lisa Kay Crossen who runs charters out of Louisiana. This is the first time I've featured a Louisiana angler on the show and it was a real treat!

The fishing she has access to down there sounds phenomenal and a multitude of species can be caught on a single trip. We talk about that as well as some special experiences Capt. Lisa has had in her time as a captain thus far such as recently putting a Retired Navy Vet on her biggest fish ever! Capt. Lisa gives discounts to Veterans, First Responders, and more. She really cares about her clients and putting them on the fish they want to target. Sounds like she really goes the extra mile and it's an honor for me to have her on the show. Enjoy!

EP. 171 Taking Disadvantaged Youth Fishing with Chastenation

EP. 171 Taking Disadvantaged Youth Fishing with Chastenation

I recently had a great time catching up with Chasten Whitfield (whom you may remember from Episode 79) down in Bradenton, FL. She's had a lot of amazing things going on through her non-profit, Chastenation, taking disadvantaged youth fishing and fishing various tournaments. She recently had an epic weekend with two very special kids that you're going to hear all about.

It was high time we got caught up! You're really going to enjoy and be inspired by this episode!

She's got some other huge things in the works we couldn't announce just yet, but rest assured we'll be catching up again, and it might not be another nearly 100 episodes in between next time!

EP. 67 The Future of the Fishing Industry

EP. 67 The Future of the Fishing Industry

"Why Fishing Will Die If We Don't Fix This..." That's a hard-hitting title of a recent podcast episode by Salt Strong's Joe Simonds. If that's not an attention grabber, I'm not sure what is! Needless to say, it certainly grabbed mine.

In songwriting, there's a phenomenon we talk about where two writers in two totally different locations and even genres will grab the exact same clever idea for a song out of the ether at the same time and write two very similar songs. I'm not saying that's exactly what happened here, but as we were planning this series on the importance of introducing new anglers to the sport of fishing I noticed our friends over at Salt Strong were on a similar tack.

Proving They Are Truly Fish Strong: Quitting Six-Figure Jobs and Following Their Passion with Salt Strong Brother Joe Simonds - 011

Proving They Are Truly Fish Strong: Quitting Six-Figure Jobs and Following Their Passion with Salt Strong Brother Joe Simonds - 011

In episode 11 of It Pays to Fish, I feature an interview with Salt Strong brother Joe Simonds. He and his brother Luke took the plunge BIG TIME and quit six-figure jobs to follow their passion to start a fishing company. How incredible is that? Joe had to completely uproot and move from Georgia to Florida with his wife and kids. I guarantee you will find a wealth of inspiration and information in Joe's story.

The company they started, called Salt Strong, has built up an amazing community over the past few years, and they've done this though a lot of hard work and sticking to their initial why. Though their blog, YouTube channel, social media, online courses, and podcast, among other things, they've managed to create more than just a fishing company. They've created a movement.
