If you've ever heard of Mosquito Lagoon or the Indian River, you've likely heard some stories of pretty epic fishing experiences. This week I am chatting with a kayak fishing guide on Florida's Space Coast, meet Dee Kaminski!

Dee originally hails from the Chicagoland area and grew up fishing in quite different waters than where she finds herself now. Her family used to make trips up to Canada where they would target walleye, northern pike, musky, and bass.

Imagine this scenario: You start tournament fishing the Bassmaster Youth Trail at 15 years old because you're so fired up and passionate about the sport.  You turn 18 and are now too old to continue fishing the trail so what do you do next? Logically you look for a local club to join...but wait...they don't allow girls? 

This is the scenario that happened to this week's guest, Florida angler Christina Weber. Since 15 it seems like Christina's done a little bit of everything in fishing. From fishing tournaments to public speaking (she's really good by-the-way!) to kayak fishing to running a skiff. What's next? Fly fishing? There are no limits!

Picture this. It's a sweltering hot, windy day in the Everglades. You're covered head to toe in UV protective clothing to avoid getting sunburned on top of the sunburn you already have from the fishing outing a couple of days earlier (lesson learned the hard way!). You're fishing the flats with a super experienced captain and guide and you're paired up with an airforce vet who traveled all the way down from Alaska to be a part of this amazing adventure. The fishing's been hard due to the windy conditions and the partly cloudy skies. It's finally time to break for lunch. Then...the unthinkable happens...

In episode 11 of It Pays to Fish, I feature an interview with Salt Strong brother Joe Simonds. He and his brother Luke took the plunge BIG TIME and quit six-figure jobs to follow their passion to start a fishing company. How incredible is that? Joe had to completely uproot and move from Georgia to Florida with his wife and kids. I guarantee you will find a wealth of inspiration and information in Joe's story.

The company they started, called Salt Strong, has built up an amazing community over the past few years, and they've done this though a lot of hard work and sticking to their initial why. Though their blog, YouTube channel, social media, online courses, and podcast, among other things, they've managed to create more than just a fishing company. They've created a movement.
