FishDonkey- the New App That Could Revolutionize Tournament Fishing - 010

FishDonkey- the New App That Could Revolutionize Tournament Fishing - 010

Darren Amundson has a vision. He thought outside the box and took action to create an app that propels tournament fishing into the future. It handles the registrations, payments, updated leaderboards, fish verification and validation, prevents cheating and more. All the tournament director has to do is sit back and enjoy!

But aside from those and all the other benefits which you'll hear about in this interview, my personal favorite feature of running a tournament through FishDonkey rather than the traditional weigh-in method, is that it promotes sustainability. Did you know that even fish successfully released after a traditional live tournament weigh-in have a much higher mortality rate? The stress of riding around in a livewell all day, among other things, is not good for the fish. The bigger the fish, the higher the mortality rate. With the FishDonkey app, tournament participants are able to immediately measure, photograph and release the fish so it can live to be caught again by the next lucky angler.

How Andy Petterson Created an Ice Fishing Facebook Group That Went Viral - 009
Andy Petterson and a buddy had a plan to shoot some ice fishing videos just for fun to put on YouTube and it turned into a Facebook Group that went viral. Within 48 hours of creating the Ice Fishing Minnesota group on Facebook, they were up to 8,000 members. Today, the group boasts nearly 60,000 members and is one of the largest and most active fishing groups on the social media platform. Since then, they have branched out to Fishing Minnesota (to cover open water/summer fishing) and also Hunting Minnesota. Not only that, but Andy has his own podcast with another buddy called The Livewell. Couple that with the YouTube Channelthe website, social gatherings, fishing shows and tournaments...and you've got the makings of one busy guy! But he has the help of some really great supportive volunteer staff who are just as passionate about fishing as he is, and love the people.
